Answer: you have to ask your doctor permission. Yoga can be very beneficial during pregnancy, because it calms both mind and body, but better to start it from the second trimester. Some yoga poses can reduce blood flow to the uterus, so it isn’t recommended in the first trimester, high risk or complicated pregnancy.
- attend special yoga classes for pregnant women;
- avoid any poses which can make you loosing your balance and risking injury to yourself or your baby;
- listen carefully to your body and if you feel any discomfort, stop.
Poses to be safe in pregnancy:
Cobra (in the first trimester, if you feel comfortable doing this face-down pose)
Seated forward bend (with modifications as described above)
Side angle pose
Standing forward bend (with chair for modification)
Triangle pose (with chair for modification)
Poses to be avoided:
Balancing poses on one leg (unless supported by chair or wall)
